Our History
Founded in 2008, blu line designs is a planning, landscape architecture, and urban design firm serving the Intermountain West. In the era of t-squares, lettering guides, and electric erasers, the non-photo blue pencil produced a shade of blue undetectable by photocopiers of the day. This allowed designers to roughly sketch designs in blue pencil prior to inking without having sketch lines show up in the final product. As a designer with great hand graphics, the non-photo blue pencil has always been a favorite tool of Cory’s so when it came time to start his own firm blu line designs was the natural choice. We like to think that like the non-photo blue pencils of yesteryear our designs cannot be successfully imitated. To this day, all pencil sketching in the firm is done in blue. In fact, if you searched the entire office you’d be hard pressed to find a #2 pencil.
Our Process
A design process is a formula in which a designer can quickly and efficiently explore a number of different concepts to meet the functional, environmental, socio-cultural, economic, and aesthetic needs of a project. As we begin the design process, client relationships are our first priority. We work closely with the client to identify the opportunities and constraints of a project and strive to maintain open communication throughout the process. One of the key ways in which we communicate with our clients is graphically. It has been said that “a picture is worth a thousand words” and we take this to heart. Whether it is through loose concept sketches or photorealistic animations, we pride ourselves on our ability graphically communicate our vision for a project.
Our Expertise
We specialize in working with communities, municipalities, institutions, and individuals to help them realize their vision for a project. In the last few years we have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting projects throughout the state. From civic centers to municipal parks to large scale planning we are passionate about creating distinct spaces for people to live, work, and play.
